How do I find myself inspired to draw?
It can be easy to
just walk away and do something else when you are not bursting with ideas for
interesting stuff to draw. That's not the only way to beat your creative block,
however.
Often, just starting
a drawing can be enough to ignite your imagination and generate fresh cool drawing ideas for
things, whether you feel motivated or not.
Try
the following exercises and strategies if you don't feel particularly inspired
to keep drawing when the ideas are sparse.
Keep a drawing plan
For instance, entrepreneur Adam Padilla recovered his creative vision after years away from the drawing pad by publicly resolving to make one drawing per day for a year and posting the results on Instagram. He was able to reignite his creative spirit through this seemingly rigid routine.
Try a Tool or New Medium
From a specific brand of charcoal stick to a
tough H-grade art pencil, many artists rely on a favorite medium or instrument
as a conduit for creativity. But what if that is what exactly held you back?
Trying a new, unknown medium or instrument will open up a new perspective both
on what to draw and how to draw it.
For instance, borrow a
child's crayon, or try an old toothbrush dipped in ink. Try dabbling in color
if you mainly work in black and white. Switch to another new tool once you
start feeling relaxed and making it work with what's already on the page.
You won't be able to
help but arrive at a new mentality and approach to drawing, and as soon as you
go back, you will have fresh respect for your favorite medium.
Using the Machine Buddy
Connecting with others will go a long
way towards keeping you responsible and inspired, whether they are like-minded
musicians, art lovers, or simply supportive friends. You might say to your best
friend, for instance, that you want to draw something every day, so he or she
can check in daily and ask about your progress.
Or, maybe yo
u are openly announcing your target on social media. Knowing that others expect your drawings to be shown will help keep you inspired to continue to create artwork on a regular basis.
It can seem daunting at first to come up with
ideas for things to drawing for kids. But you will have no trouble igniting your
imagination and creating fresh ideas when you take advantage of the drawing
ideas list, we have included here, as well as the exercises to drive your
creative process.
